Litter heroes welcome at Great British Spring Clean event
Litter heroes who want to join the Great British Spring Clean can find out more at a special event on Friday.
Stroud District Council is joining forces with Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign by holding an event at Wallbridge near Stroud town centre on Friday, March 22.
From 1pm to 3.30pm, SDC staff will be on hand to answer questions, hand out pocket ash trays and covers to protect household recycling, and take requests for litter picking equipment to be loaned out. The event will also feature a game where residents can win a re-usable coffee cup.
Back for its ninth year, the Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. The Great British Spring Clean and Great Big School Clean 2024 take place from 15 - 31 March, and you can pledge to pick up a bag of litter – or more.
Pledging to take part couldn’t be easier, simply pledge as an individual, a group or a school and let Keep Britain Tidy know how many bags you pledge to pick up.
Last year, an army of amazing #LitterHeroes pledged to pick more than 400,000 bags of litter.
“Sadly a small minority of people drop litter in our district. Clearing fly tipping, street sweeping, emptying bins and litter picking costs council tax payers £770,000 to clear up,” said SDC Director of Communities, Keith Gerrard.
“We’re really grateful to the volunteers who love their neighbourhoods so much that they’re prepared to pick litter themselves, and we now have more litter picking kits available to loan out.”
