Since I joined, I have learnt how much the Council do for their residents and beyond, and how passionate everyone is to make a difference. Whilst I have not been here for very long, I feel very lucky to work for the council, a place which feels more like a large family than an organisation where you are a person who is recognised and has a voice. Everyone is so welcoming, supportive and encouraging and you feel empowered to make your own decisions. Work life balance is very important to SDC, which provides you with a feeling of ease, especially important when you have a family and for your overall mental health. SDC is a big thumbs up from me all the way.

Collectively we have worked for SDC for 31 years.  We work in a lovely building within a beautiful setting, there is ample parking for staff cars.  The work environment is warm, friendly, and supportive not just within our immediate team but across the Council as a whole, which in turn enables us to deliver a high standard animal welfare service to the Stroud community.

I began working at Stroud District Council in January 2014 and started my Local Government career as an Apprentice. Not knowing what I wanted to do after I completed my A-Levels and certain University wasn’t for me at that point in time, the apprenticeship scheme at the Council was what initially drew me to the organisation along with its competitive benefits and flexible working. The Council has provided me with a range of opportunities to help deliver not only my own personal development objectives but help contribute to its own ambitions ‘to make Stroud District a better place to live, work and visit’. I’m proud of my career journey and the Council and support from my colleagues have played a large role in this and the person that I am today. I have completed both my Level 2 and 3 Apprenticeship, secured a permanent role within the organisation progressed my career from an Apprentice to the role I love and enjoy/thrive on today (Democracy and Information Governance Officer).

I have worked within Stroud District Council for almost 6 years now and I can truly say I love my job. I feel so supported by my team and enjoy coming into work and being surrounded by such positive and friendly people. Stroud District Council is a great place to work if you want flexibility. The flexi time allows me to achieve a great work life balance which for me is very important! I also love that SDC have a hybrid working policy which means I can get projects completed in a quiet home environment whilst also coming into the office and working as a team.”

I really enjoy working for Stroud District Council, right from my first day I have felt welcomed into the organisation. They have a great well-structured induction process which allows you to become embedded in the organisation really easily. I find that the council is very forward thinking with their “Fit for the Future” project ensuring that everyone is involved in shaping the future of the council. I find that the council is especially good around employee wellbeing where they invest a great deal of time and effort. The flexible working policies and family style atmosphere also really help to make this a fantastic place to work.

I joined the council as an apprentice at the age of sixteen after realising that sixth form wasn’t the right route of education for me. I can honestly say that beginning my apprenticeship at the council was the best decision I could have made.

It is an amazing place to work and a very supportive environment which has allowed me to grow and develop both personally and professionally throughout my time here. By working in different areas, it opened my eyes to the number of opportunities within the council and ultimately which direction I would like to take my career.

Throughout my time at the council, I have been able to complete numerous professional qualifications in order to support both the organisation and my own aspirations and I am continuing to further my development in my role as a Trainee Project Manager.  I am very grateful to work for such a good organisation and with such great people!
